Learn with Minot State
Our business education degree will prepare you to teach middle and high school students for careers in business through hands-on exercises and experiences. Your education will include:

  • General education – These required classes will help prepare you to apply to Minot State’s Teacher Education Program and complete the required Praxis tests.
  • Core business classes – Course work includes accounting, management information systems, technology management, business communication, keyboarding, website design, and desktop publishing. All classes are offered both on campus and online.
  • Professional education sequence – Core coursework in the teacher education program includes curriculum planning and assessment, educational psychology, managing the learning environment, and methods of teaching business. Several classes are offered online.
  • Requirements for future teachers - Through coursework and field experiences, we will help you graduate with the needed knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed to deliver optimum learning experiences to your future students.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, high school teachers earn a median pay of $62,360 per year.

Employment outlook
Business education teachers at the secondary level are in high demand in North Dakota and across the country. With a degree in business education, students are armed with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful wherever life leads.
Student teaching
Business educations majors are required to complete 16 weeks of student teaching in a secondary school. As a student teacher you will be responsible, as much as is deemed appropriate, for the cooperating teacher’s classroom.
Get involved
Enhance your skills and boost your knowledge by being involved in one or more of Minot State’s seven student-run business clubs and organizations. Many of Minot State’s clubs participate in state, regional, and national competitions, or attend business-related events, traveling to major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, Omaha, and Washington, D.C.
College of Business 
The College of Business is committed to active learning and preparing students for careers in business. Our facilities include the new Slaaten Learning Center which features:
  • Cybersecurity training lab
  • Financial trading lab
  • Corporate-style boardroom with video-conference equipment
  • Student lounge
  • Boardroom for student organizations and groups
