Consider an English degree
The Bachelor of Arts with a Major in English prepares thinkers, readers, and communicators for a variety of careers. The versatility of the degree makes it a good fit for law, scholarship, publishing, advertising, or making your way down your own creative path. Course emphases include literature, cultural studies, creative writing, education, and professional writing.

Regardless of the emphasis, in keeping with the development of agile, mobile, and analytic skills, the program goal is to encourage intellectual curiosity and engagement, active critical consideration, and philosophic vision. In effect, students and faculty open the critical doors of perception together.

Experienced faculty
Our excellent faculty have national scholarly reputations. But we also roll up our sleeves and immerse ourselves in the work of the campus and the Minot community. We regularly host events like poetry readings, writing workshops, literary conferences, and writing contests to celebrate the language arts in all its forms.

The opportunities for today’s English student are endless. As an English major or minor, you will learn to write clearly, analyze carefully, and think critically. These are life skills valuable in today’s job market, which makes the English major highly employable and makes the English minor pair well with any career field.

Coursework
At Minot State, English majors learn with the benefit of engaged, passionate, and focused faculty. The curriculum focuses on core foundational courses — literary criticism, British and American literature, and multi-genre writing — and includes a variety of topics courses so students can tailor the program to their interests. English education majors also prepare for teaching at the secondary level.
