Learn with Minot State
Our Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) is a flexible, highly individualized degree. It is a great way for you to develop a personalized major while completing a bachelor’s degree. You can earn your BGS degree on campus or online and can choose from over 100 areas of study, many that focus on high-demand careers. Outside the classroom, instructors engage in professional endeavors and research projects with you, and they provide individualized advisement and support. Minot State is a campus where you will learn by doing.

Coursework
General studies requirements expose you to many disciplines, including communications, history, humanities, wellness, math, science, and social science. You will work closely with an academic advisor to ensure requirements are met and to help shape your studies and meet your goals.

Career outlook
A BGS degree provides basic preparation for many careers, including education, law, government, health care, real estate, social service, and private industry. BGS students may also go on to graduate programs such as business, fine arts, law, library science, and more.
Class size
Minot State’s small classroom sizes allow you to experience valuable one-on-one interaction with professors and participate in practical collaboration with your classmates.
Graduation requirements
  • 120 total credits
  • 40 credits of 300-400 level coursework
  • 30 credits earned through Minot State University
  • 60 credits from a four-year college or university
  • 2.00 cumulative grade point average
  • Completion of the general education requirements
  • Completion of course IDS 470: General Studies Capstone (1 SH)
