Make history with us!

The faculty of the MSU history department invite you to make history with us. We offer a variety of courses and small classes unmatched anywhere in North Dakota. Our students learn in and out of the classroom. A variety of internships, conference opportunities, local museum work, and oral history projects will allow you to work in the community as you build a portfolio of life-long skills.

Degrees

  • Bachelor of Arts in History
  • Bachelor of Science in Education with a Major in History
  • Minor in History (teaching or non-teaching)

Career outlook
The Bachelor of Arts with a Major in History prepares students for a wide range of careers including law, business, education, public history, and graduate study in history.

The Bachelor of Science in Education with a Major in History prepares students to become grade 7–12 certified teachers. Moreover, History education majors can easily transition into a wide range of other careers, including law, business, education, public history, and graduate study in history.

Coursework
History courses prepare students to write well, conduct sophisticated research, and synthesize information into coherent oral and written arguments. Education coursework and clinical experiences prepare BSE students to become highly qualified teachers as well as reflective decision makers.
