Do you have what it takes?
Actors must be creative and believable. They must be physically and vocally adept as well as be willing to take risks. Those choosing theatre management over performance must be savvy in theatre, business operations, and marketing.

The stage is the thing

  • Main Stage - Our main stage is the Harold G. Aleshire Theater in Hartnett Hall. The mainstage season generally includes challenging works of dramatic art from all periods.
  • Black Box Theatre - The Black Box Theatre is open to all who would like to produce their own plays (faculty approval required). Scheduling is flexible.
  • Campus Players Christmas production - The oldest student organization on campus, Campus Players, produces the annual holiday production.
  • Creative Dramatics productions - Touring productions by creative dramatics students introduce area elementary school students to live theatre and puppetry performances.
  • MSU Summer Theatre Company - MSU Summer Theatre Company has been delighting summer theatre audiences for nearly 50 years. The season typically includes four shows, with an emphasis on musical theatre.

Comedy / Tragedy Freshman Scholarships
Incoming freshmen who have participated in a variety of high school performance activities are encouraged to apply for the Comedy/Tragedy Freshman Scholarship.

Excellence and experience are keys to employment in theatre. Acting is a competitive profession. Work assignments are usually short, ranging from one day to a few months. Actors often hold other jobs to make a living. Careers in technical theatre and design are much more plentiful which is why, at Minot State University, your education requires an equal amount of performance and tech theatre courses and opportunities.

Our faculty
Our faculty members are dedicated educators, active scholars and researchers, and creative visual and performing artists.

Our college
The College of Arts and Sciences provides fundamental liberal arts education for all MSU students, giving students the knowledge, skills and values to help them think critically and creatively.

Please contact us for more information. Better yet, plan a campus visit so we can arrange a tour and meet face-to-face.
