Dennis Simons, Associate Professor of Music and Conductor of the Minot Symphony Orchestra, joined the faculty of Minot State University in 2002 where he teaches Music Appreciation, Creativity in Music, and World Music. Mr. Simons received the Recital Diploma in Violin Performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London and has also been honored with a Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Music, an honor held by only 250 living former students at any one time. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of North Dakota.

Prior to his appointment at Minot State University, Mr. Simons was Music Director of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director and Conductor of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. He was the founder and first violin of the Alberni String Quartet, Co-Concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (U.K.) and Concertmaster of the BBC Philharmonic. He has presented many world premieres of chamber, solo and orchestral works. As a solo violinist, he has broadcast extensively for the BBC and performed in England, France, Finland, Canada, USA, and New Zealand.

As an adjudicator, Mr. Simons has served on many international juries including for BBCTV Young Musician of the Year and the Banff International String Quartet Competitions. He has taught at the University of Saskatchewan, and in Manchester, England, at the Royal Northern College of Music and Chethams School of Music.
