Judy Spitzer, new to Minot State this fall but well known for many years in the Minot area, is Instructor of Woodwinds. She received her BSE and MME at Minot State where she studied with Ira-Paul Schwarz, and had the privilege of studying with Himie Voxman in Iowa. Mrs. Spitzer is principal clarinetist in Minot Symphony Orchestra where she has played for 40 years, having first played in high school under the direction of Arturo Petrucci.

She is a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota Professional Music Fraternity; MENC and NDMEA, where she has served on the Board of Directors; and International Clarinet Association, with attendance at many clarinet fests throughout the USA. She is also a member of PEO women’s organization, and is a long time member of the Minot City Band and also the Minot Community Band. A public school music educator for 35 years, many of those years in the Minot Public Schools, Mrs. Spitzer continues to maintain a private woodwind studio and regularly adjudicates elementary and secondary music festivals in the area.
